Camp Crown

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation has partnered with Crown Sports Center on their efforts to raise funds for scholarships that will allow low income children to participate in the Crown Sports Center’s youth events & camp.

Keeping kids active and engaged during the summer months can be a challenge.  It is so easy for them to sit in front of the television or computer and vegetate.  This summer Crown Sports Center is a haven of activity, offering kids a wide range of sports, games, and special activities that will keep them moving, exercising, and just having fun with other kids in a safe environment.  Crown Sports Center offers eleven weeks of fun at their summer day camp.  Gina Dean Donoway, Camp Crown Director, has a different theme planned for each week to provide variety and interest.  There is a pool option, movie day, laser tag, and all kinds of special recreation scheduled.  Camp Crown is keeping about 120 kids on the move this summer.

In today’s world, day camps have provided the working parent with a safe place for their child to receive care and supervision while they are at work.  Camp Crown is no different in that regard.  Many working parents enroll their children for a couple of weeks, if not for the whole summer.  For those with low incomes, day camp may not be a viable option, but Crown Sports Center wants to make it possible for more children to participate even if the funds are not readily available.  In an effort to make that possible, Adam Manning, who handles marketing for Crown, approached the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation about helping establish a scholarship fund. An agreement was made and funds were received at the SACC Foundation from the public that have provided one child a scholarship for all eleven weeks of camp in 2009.  Gina Donoway commented that “this scholarship program will help us assist parents and allow campers to be active during the summer months with a variety of skill-based and recreational activities”.

The SACC Foundation is pleased to have a small part in this effort to provide youth in our area with the excellent services Camp Crown provides.  If you want to contribute to this scholarship program send your check, payable to the SACC Foundation, to P. O. Box 510, Salisbury, Maryland, 21801 and mark it for the Camp Crown Scholarship.
