2011 Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Awarded

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation managed a single payment scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for an anonymous donor.   This scholarship was awarded to one graduating senior from a
Wicomico County public or private school.  The selection was based on the best essay written and submitted via the school guidance office or submitted directly to the SACC Foundation.  The student had to be  planning to attend Salisbury University and been accepted for the next academic year.  The topic for the essay was “How and why the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is important to our community”.

Scholarship Recipient - Emily Mills

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation presented its Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship to Salisbury Christian School graduating senior, Emily Mills. The selection was based on the best essay with the topic of “How and why the Chamber of Commerce is important in our community”.

Emily is the daughter of Roger and Judy Mills and lives in Delmar, Maryland. Emily plans to continue her education by first attending Salisbury University and then moving on to graduate school to become a pharmacist. She has shown leadership throughout school by being a captain for her varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball teams, as well being a member of the National Honor Society. Emily has also had time to volunteer for activities such as being a church nursery worker and participating in mission trips, all while taking piano lessons and participating in National Guild Auditions. One of Emily’s teachers put it best, “ From Emily’s strong academics, extreme involvement in school activities, and numerous qualities that display her love for all people and determination to serve and lead all people around her, it is obvious to me and anyone who knows her that she has made and will continue to make a difference in this world.”

The SACC Foundation is pleased to be a part of providing the opportunity for a “bright future” to young people like Emily so they can attend college to prepare and educate themselves to make their career dreams come true.
